Coming to an end...

I cannot believe that SBA testing week is upon us!  Blows my mind, only 7 weeks left!  I am not ready to leave my kids and my community yet, even if it's just for the summer.

Over these past months I have learned so much about my teaching style and myself, its amazing :)

On a more personal note...man I miss my family!  Arthur's in Germany, Katie in Utah, Mommy in Chicago, and Gidget all over...I miss the days when we were all in one house together.  I wish somehow all of Fa's family could be together again, so I could hug them all at the same time!

Anyway, just a somber post, more happy ones coming along soon :)

More Photos :)

My rewards program!!

Playing poker with the QAP guys!!

My student saw me at the store and brought my science lesson to life: "Look Miss Conway! I've eat meat and vegetables, so I am an omnivore right?"  Sooo proud of him!!

My first kuspuk, not completely finished, but St. Patricks themed

Kurt being bored, attempting to squeeze himself into the freezer!

Movie rewards night at school, biggest group yet!!

Oh yeah, I live here, freaking awesome :)

Got a tour of the construction site from QAP, super awesome!

Community learning, so much fun when students teach each other!

Science experimenting!  Those cells are so tiny, Miss Conway!!

Posing in front of the sunset :)

Started explaining levels of organization in organisms, and it turned into all kinds of analogies for my students to learn...even a math one...good day :)

Favorite Student Comments of the Year so Far :)

While looking at a picture of myself and my siblings, one of my students responds "How come she is browner?", referring to Gidget's permanent Hawaiian tan lol

One day during silent study time, my student says out loud "Oh F!".  Me thinking he means the F-bomb I am about to chastise for the language use when he recovers quickly "No no, I got an 'F' on my practice quiz online" Bahaha

After finding my water bottle hidden for the third week in a row, I finally ask why my students always hide my water bottle.  Their response "We always hide your water bottle because you are the chosen one, Miss Conway, and we love you" :)

I wave to one of the kindergartners waiting for their parents to pick them up at lunch.  As I walk away I hear her tell her friend "She is so pretty."

"This isn't all that much fun Miss Conway, but at least you make it sound fun!" After a very kinesthetic explanation of cells and tissues.

Two weekends in Anchorage

So I have spent the last two weekends in Anchorage...Wow what a ride!

RTI Conference

I attended the Response to Intervention/Instruction (RTI) conference in Anchorage two weekends ago.  Its all about how we can not only catch students with additional learning needs earlier on, but also how to accommodate and include them into the general classroom.  I learned so much and got an approving "Woo Woo" from ANITA ARCHER!  Uuugh Amazing!!  I met a bunch of new friends with great connections for the education field.  There were also some celebratory shots taken at the end of the night, much enjoyed by the Tununak group :)

Because most of the staff was gone for the RTI, we ended up having a "snow day" the following Monday because we had to fly in Monday afternoon.  As a result, the Snow Day Shot was created!

NEA-Alaska Delegate Assembly

I was elected to be the LK-NEA delegate to the big Alaska teacher union meeting.  I had so much fun there meeting different people in my school district AND new friends over all the state.  I even led a few dancing break interludes which had second in command, La Dawn, quite the fan of yours truly :)

While there I started my own "motion" to better teacher's lives in Bush Alaska and 500 teachers supported it FULLY!  I went to my first union meeting and got a motion passed!  Woot woot!

I was also elected to two Union positions: PACE and RA.  PACE is basically a political action committee...I have to follow the news now and follow it and understand it.  yay grownup pants!  Then after state wide elections last week, I was nominated to be the NEA-Alaska Region IV Delegate to go to the National NEA meeting in Denver in July.  So instead of speaking in front of 500 teachers and educational support staff, I will be speaking in front of over 30,000!

Man am  excited, its already been a crazy year, and it is just getting better and better!
